A money sigil, in the sense used here, is a small piece of generative art built from old symbol systems that tradition links with Jupiter and with gain. This page lists those systems one by one and says where each comes from. A sigil is a focus for your own intention, drawn by fixed rules, and no promise is made about what happens in your life.
What a money sigil is
The modern sigil comes from Austin Osman Spare, who described it in The Book of Pleasure (1913) under the heading 'Sigils. Belief with Protection'. Spare condensed a sentence of desire into a single monogram. Peter J. Carroll (Liber Null & Psychonaut, 1987) and Frater U∴D∴ (Practical Sigil Magic, 1990) later set the method out as steps.
In Luckwell the intention is called Prosperity. The sigil is a picture that holds your attention for a few seconds, nothing more. It is art and a focus for a sentence you chose yourself.
Which planet, and why Jupiter
Tradition assigns this intention to Jupiter (Iuppiter, ♃), whose day is Thursday. The traditional metal is tin in the Key of Solomon and silver in Agrippa's tables. The colour is blue in both the Key of Solomon and the Golden Dawn scheme, and the sefirah is Chesed.
Agrippa (De occulta philosophia II.xxii, 1533) lists the virtues of Jupiter as: gain, riches, favour, love, peace, concord; appeases enemies; confirms honours. The Key of Solomon (I.2, Mathers 1889) gives the operations of Jupiter as: honours, acquiring riches, forming friendships, preserving health, achieving what one desires. For the fourth Jupiter pentacle the Key of Solomon gives the purpose: 'acquire riches and honour'.
These are the words of the old books, quoted as tradition. Luckwell's data also lists Mercury as an alternative planet for this intention, and the intention 'luck' shares Jupiter with it. More on the planet is on the page Jupiter in the archive.
The kamea, the letters and the 72-Name subset
Jupiter's square is the 4×4 kamea. Its rows, as Agrippa gives them, are:
- 4, 14, 15, 1
- 9, 7, 6, 12
- 5, 11, 10, 8
- 16, 2, 3, 13
Every line sums to 34 and the whole square to 136. Agrippa attaches the intelligence Iophiel, יהפיאל, whose letters also total 136, and the divine names Abba אבא (4), Hoh הוה and Ahi אהי (16), and El Ab אל אב (34). The full square is described on the page kamea of Jupiter.
The Hebrew letter linked with Jupiter in the Golden Dawn scheme is Kaf, כ, value 20 (500 in final form), and the tarot card paired with it is X, Wheel of Fortune.
From the 72 Names of Shem HaMephorash, Luckwell keeps six that its data tags with prosperity or a neighbouring quality. The angel names and ranks follow Reuchlin (1517), and the psalm references follow Rudd:
- Samekh-Aleph-Lamed (סאל, 91), Sealiah, Virtues, Psalms 94:18
- Yod-Resh-Tav (ירת, 610), Ierathel, Dominions, Psalms 140:1
- Lamed-Kaf-Bet (לכב, 52), Lecabel, Dominions, Psalms 71:16
- Mem-Bet-He (מבה, 47), Mebahaiah, Principalities, Psalms 102:12
- Chet-Ayin-Mem (חעם, 118), Haamiah, Powers, Psalms 91:9
- Dalet-Nun-Yod (דני, 64), Daniel, Principalities, Psalms 145:8
The one-word qualities beside these (prosperity, partnership, completion, success, flow, gratitude) are Luckwell's own routing tags, not tradition.
The rune and the key
Three Elder Futhark runes are assigned to this intention: ᚠ fehu, ᛃ jēra and ᛟ ōþala. The attested meanings are cattle for fehu, year and harvest for jēra, and inheritance for ōþala. The modern esoteric readings are later additions and are not part of the historical record.
The key is a short mantra of three to seven words, built only from fixed units. For this intention the units are:
- the bīja śrīṃ (श्रीं), traditionally linked with Lakshmi; Luckwell's pronunciation aid is SHREEM;
- the Latin motto Per aspera ad astra, 'Through hardship to the stars', of Seneca-derived origin; Luckwell's aid is per AS-pe-ra ad AS-tra;
- the Hebrew phrase ה׳ רֹעִי לֹא אֶחְסָר (Adonai ro'i, lo echsar), 'The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want', Psalm 23:1; Luckwell's aid is a-do-NAI ro-EE, lo ekh-SAR;
- the three letters of a chosen 72-Name, spelled as letter names.
The Tetragrammaton is never written out, and ה׳ stands in its place.
The daily ritual: ten seconds, say the key, forget
The ritual in the app follows steps 4 and 5 of Spare's method. Look at the sigil for about ten seconds. Say the key once. Then let it go: the sigil is hidden until the next day, so it is not studied or analysed.
Streaks and circles in the app are game mechanics that record practice. They are not claims about anyone's life.
How Luckwell builds it
The drawing starts with a letter core. Your name and the intention sentence become letters only, repeated letters are removed in order of first appearance, and the list is capped by the size of the kamea. Each letter becomes a number by Agrippa's Latin table (II.xx), and Hebrew letters use standard gematria. Numbers larger than the square are reduced by dropping trailing zeros until they fit, as in the Golden Dawn practice. The cell centres are then joined by straight segments on Jupiter's 4×4 square, with a small circle on the first cell, a short bar on the last and a loop on a repeated cell.
One of the six Names above is chosen by a hash of your birth date and intention, so it stays stable for one person. Its three letters sit on the outer ring and are traced on the same square in the accent colour. The Elder Futhark rune of your name's initial stands in the centre, and the zodiac glyph from your birth date sits on the ring. The face colour for this intention is blue and the accent green-gold; these are Luckwell's choices, and the site remaps them to oxidised gold on obsidian. If the weekday ruler differs from Jupiter, it gives the secondary ring colour, which is why a sigil made on a Thursday differs from one made on a Monday. The same inputs on the same day give the same sign. You can read more in the archive index.
If you would like to see this drawn for your own name, you can forge your own sigil.
FAQ
Does a money sigil change my finances?
No. Luckwell makes no promise about money, health or the outcome of any event. The sigil is art and a focus for an intention you chose.
Why Jupiter and not another planet?
Agrippa lists gain, riches and honours among the virtues of Jupiter, and the Key of Solomon names acquiring riches among its operations. Luckwell follows that tradition and lists Mercury only as an alternative.
Is the rune fehu a symbol of money?
Its attested meaning is cattle. Later esoteric writers read it more widely, but that is a modern reading and not part of the historical record.
Do I have to say the key aloud?
The ritual asks you to say it once, after looking at the sigil for about ten seconds. The pronunciation aids are Luckwell's own, offered only to make the words easier to read.
